Community Project Feature

THE PIECE

In early 2016 local businessman Anthony Fulkner connected with Dutch Brothers with the idea of purchasing a blighted building downtown.  The idea was to privately fundraise on behalf of the City of Charlotte, who would purchase the property and develop it into a Community Pocket Park.  Both Darrell and Jason led the fundraising necessary for the city to purchase.

During a visit and workshop with Peter Kageyama (Author, For The Love of Cities), the community came together to develop projects that would make a tangible change in our city.  Both Darrell and Jason sat on the committee that developed the idea to create a large temporary art instelation and call it "THE PIECE". The name accurately described the building before and the ART PIECE that was created after.

THE PIECE has now been removed making way for a new pocket park that is being planned by city and community members.
